5 Things I Love (July 2013 Edition)

I go through phases of obsession with various and assorted things in life.
Here are five things I’m currently in love with, in no particular order.

1. Humans of New York

HoNY is one of those things I accidentally ran across because a friend of a friend recommended it. As I scrolled through the pictures, I thought, “Man, New York is a freak show.” The longer I looked and the more I read, I found myself fascinated at each person’s advice, perspective and story. It’s amazing what you can find out about a person when you look past the external or take a moment to ask what makes them unique. I must’ve spent at least five hours scrolling through pictures since I discovered the site.
The picture above came with the following caption:
I took this photo just a few minutes ago. She was sitting outside of a bar. As I photographed her, she kept inhaling deeply, then exhaling slowly. “Man,” I thought, “I’m really annoying this girl.” Until…
“What was the saddest moment of your life?”
“Right now.”
“What happened?”
“The person I love wants to take a break. He’s still inside.”

2. Washington Cherries
Washington Cherries

I’ve hated cherries my whole life until my Mom offered me one of these. They’re like bite sized plums! Sometimes trying new things really pays off.

3. New Girl
Its Jess

I’ve been interested in watching this show for awhile, but with a dozen shows on my “to watch” list, this one was a fairly low priority. However, with a low key weekend on my hands and Netflix offering it in their streaming library, I decided to give it a shot. Two days and I’ve already blown through the entire 24 episode first season. Until I can find more single friends, I’ll let my TV character buddies keep me occupied.

4. Daydreaming

Scrolling through my Facebook feed lately has resembled a Google image search for beaches. I get it. You all have money and spouses to go on vacation with. Good on you. Although I have a couple one day Dallas trips in the works and a family vacation to Colorado on the horizon in the next few months, I feel like I’m going stir crazy. I need out of the city. I’ll go anywhere that is at least an hour away and involves something different and non-work related. (Mt. Scott, anyone?) I’m really not picky. Until then, I’ll continue to zone out for a few minutes each afternoon and dream about what it would be like to have a real break.

5. The Thunder Bench Squad

In case you haven’t been paying attention around here, I’m a bit obsessed with our Thunder bench this year. I know there’s a lot of talk about how we didn’t make a big move while other teams in the West got much, much better, but I think there’s a misunderstanding of the talent we have on the bench. These guys went undefeated in the Orlando Summer League and have a ton of potential. Yes, that comes with “what ifs,” but I have confidence in Sam Presti and the coaching staff. We may not have picked up any big names, but we were already the top team in the West – we didn’t need to, nor could we afford to. We made a decision for our future. Presti stuck with the Thunder philosophy of making decisions based on the best interest of the team without favoring a person. I stand behind that. I’m more excited for the upcoming season than I have been about any other… that’s saying a lot.
